Lynx winning streak snapped by No. 2 nationally-ranked Amherst

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- Lesley University (6-3-2) had its four-game winning streak snapped at the hands of the No. 2 nationally-ranked Amherst Lord Jeffs (8-0-0) Tuesday night in non-conference men's soccer play at Edward Field.

Lynx senior Alex Fisher, who led the team with two shots, fired the contest's first attempt, missing wide from 20 yards at 5:36, and Amherst would jump on top for good shortly thereafter. Sophomore Gabriel Wirz corralled a batted ball inside the box, dribbled right and ripped a shot from under 10 yards outside the right post into the top center net.

Lord Jeffs second leading scorer Spencer Noon doubled the lead to 2-0 with his sixth strike of the season in the 16th minute on a feed from James Mooney. Wirz second goal of the game and second of the season off a Jae Heo corner kick upped the lead to 3-0, and Julien Aoyama found himself in front of the left post following a Milton Rico corner, and his tap-in deflected in off the crossbar and in during the 38th minute.

Finally, Nico Pascual-Leone ended the first half with a diving header off of a Mike Hoeksema corner, sending Amherst into halftime up 5-0 after outshooting Lesley 11-3 and earning all seven of the period's corner kicks.

Amherst's Garret Van Wie capped the night's scoring with a long laser from 30 yards away into the top left corner past Lynx keeper Chase Donley at 65:06, and the Lord Jeffs cruised to a 6-0 win.

For the night, Amherst outshot the Lynx 18-6 and worked 15 corner kicks to Lesley's two.

The Lynx return to play against another nationally-ranked opponent, traveling to No. 25 Babson on Saturday, when Amherst takes on Williams.
