Lynx, Mustangs play to 1-1 tie at Mount Ida

NEWTON, MA -- A Herbin Berreondo goal with 20 minutes remaining in the second half marked the equalizer in Lesley's 1-1 tie at Mount Ida in non-conference men's soccer play Sunday afternoon.

The Mustangs jumped out to a lead just 16 minutes into the contest, when Carlos Martinez beat Lynx keeper Nigel Leahy on a feed from Oscar Lemus. Lesley outshot the Mustangs 6-4 for the frame, but Mount Ida's 1-0 advantage held through halftime.

The Lynx tied the contest with 20 munutes remaining in the second, as Berreondo's second career goal on a feed from senior Ari Sinanis made it a 1-1 game at 70:01. Each team got off six shots in the second half, but only Berreondo's found the back of the net in a physical frame in which 19 fouls were called, 10 on the Mustangs.

The teams played to a tie following two 10-minute overtimes, with both clubs managing three shots. Lesley moves to 0-1-1 with the tie, the Lynx first since a scoreless tie September 15, 2011 at Emmanuel.

Paul Vasconcelos' club outshot the Mustangs 17-13 for the day. Sinanis, the New England Collegiate Conference's assist leader a season ago, has now assisted on both Lynx goals of 2012.

Lesley returns to play at home on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. against Mass Maritime.
