Men's soccer bolsters 2012 class with two JC additions

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- Head men's soccer coach Paul Vasconcelos has added a pair of junior college standouts to his eight-man recruiting class in forward Makenzie Lukas and defender Josh Weinert.

"Both of these players come in with experience and knowledge of the college game, said Vasconcelos. "We expect them to both come in and play right away."

Lukas, a native of Reno, NV, played the last two seasons at Feather River College in Quincy, CA. Playing for coach Don Williams, the standout forward led the Golden Eagles to a 15-4-2 record in 2011 and a No. 19 national ranking in the final National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Junior College rankings. The 5-foot-8 forward scored two goals in Feather River's final match, a 3-0 win over Butte College.

Prior to playing for the Golden Eagles, Lukas was named most valuable player at Reno High School and earned Second Team All-Northern Nevada honors.

Weinert was named Second Team All-Coast Conference last season while playing at Ohlone College in Fremont, CA, where he was a teammate of former Lynx defender Sean Randall. The 5-foot-9 Weinert played in 19 out of 20 games for the Renegades, tallying two assists while anchoring the Ohlone defense in leading the team to a third place finish.

"We have had some success with junior college transfers in the past and hope for the same with these two gentlemen," added Vasconcelos.

The additions of Lukas and Weinert mark 10 new faces for Vasconcelos' Lynx, which went 15-5-1 in 2011, winning the New England Collegiate Conference championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
