Lesley advances to NECC Championship, 3-1 at DWC

NASHUA, NH -- For a third time in four years, Lesley will return to the NECC Championship, this time with a trip to the NCAA Tournament at stake.

Ari Sinanis' second half penalty kick snapped a 1-1 tie and was the eventual game-winner. The Lynx now advance to take on No. 1 Southern Vermont on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Bennington, VT.

Christian Domingo put the Lynx on the board in the 12th minute with a header off of a free kick from fellow senior Ryan Rodgers. Domingo's fifth goal of the year, his second redirect goal in the last two games, gave the Lynx a 1-0 lead that lasted until the waning seconds of the half.

With 16 ticks left, an Elliott Kilgore header knocked Alex Jackson's indirect kick past Lynx keeper Max Perkins, pulling the Eagles into a 1-1 tie going into halftime.

Like the Lynx did Wednesday night in a 5-3 quarterfinals round victory over No. 6 Mitchell, the team struck first after half, added an insurance goal and silenced the opposition. Sinanis' penalty kick at 58:45 snapped the 1-1 tie, and leading scorer Ali Sozeri netted his league-leading 16th goal from 25 yards at 67:35, sending the Lynx back to the finals for the first time since 2009.

Perkins made a match-high nine saves in net as the Eagles outshot Lesley 15-13 on the day.

When Lesley took on championship opponent Southern Vermont on October 24 with first place at stake, the Mountaineers prevailed 2-1 on a goal in the 86th minute. Now, with the Lynx first-ever trip to NCAA's on the line, Lesley travels to Bennington on Sunday at 1 p.m. Southern Vermont topped Elms, 4-1 on Friday, exploding for four second half goals in the Mountaineers 4-1 win over Elms today.
