Sozeri, Lynx back in form in 3-0 shutout of Mariners

NEW LONDON, CT -- Lesley used a Darius Koep goal, Ali Sozeri's team-leading and record-setting 11th goal and an own goal compliments of Mitchell to sink the Mariners, 3-0, Wednesday afternoon.

After 28 minutes of scoreless soccer, Mitchell deflected a ball into its own net for the Lynx first goal, and Lesley added on to the Mariners self-imposed deficit just over 90 seconds later.

At 29:57, Ari Sinanis dribbled over the top of the Mitchell defense along the right sideline and centered a pass to fellow junior Darius Koep, who deposited his first goal of the season in putting the Lynx up 2-0 at halftime.

The score held until the final minutes, when Sozeri intercepted a failed Mariners clear and blew a shot past Mitchell keeper Kevin Woodford at 86:53 for his record-breaking score. He passes Sinanis and former teammate Tyler Reeves, both of whom scored 10 goals a year ago, in the Lesley record books with one regular season game yet to come.

Goalkeeper Max Perkins saved all four Mitchell shots on goal as the Lynx outshot the home team 15-9, getting back in the win column following a 2-1 setback at first-place Southern Vermont.

Woodford made three saves for the Mariners, now 4-10-1 on the season and 4-10-1 in NECC play.

At 11-4-1 and 5-2-0, Lesley returns to play on Sunday at 2:30 p.m., playing host to Newbury College on Senior Day at Edward Field.
