Mattox, Lynx sprint past Wildcats, 12-1

BOSTON -- Lesley jumped out to a 9-0 first half lead behind a career-high and Lesley record four goals from junior midfielder Nick Mattox in Saturday's 12-1 New England Collegiate Conference victory.

Playing without leading scorer Ali Sozeri didn't stop the Lynx from setting a season high with 12 goals, which came from a combination of eight players. Mattox's first of the day, also his first of the season, came on a breakaway after stealing the ball from a Wildcats midfielder inside the 3:00 mark. Less than a minute later, at 3:46, Ahmed Abubakar scored his third of the year off a Lynx corner kick and added his third off an Ari Sinanis cross at the 5:00 mark.

Mattox's took over five minutes later, deflicting a Jordan Santos shot in for his second goal, knocking home a shot off a Jimmy Paulsen cross for the hat trick and adding an unassisted score at the 24:09 mark.

Wheelock scored its only goal of the game to make it a 5-1 contest when Johnathan Krouse beat goalkeeper Nathan Trucks on a flick at 34:18. Lesley responded with goals from Alex Fisher, Herbin Berreondo's first career goal, Ari Sinanis' fourth of the year and a buzzer-beater from Beau Morrimondo, going ahead 10-1 at halftime.

Ray Cohen and Dallas Eubanks rounded out the scoring with second half goals, each tallying his first of the season in the 12-1 final.

Lesley outshot the Wildcats 36-5 on the day, 23-2 in the first half.

Mattox's record effort breaks the three-goal mark set first by 2011 graduate Tyler Reeves in September of 2007 against Fisher College.

Paul Vasconcelos' club remains in NECC action, playing host to Becker College on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
