Lynx hang for half with No. 4 Amherst, but fall 4-0

AMHERST, MA -- A pair of late-first half Amherst goals broke a scoreless tie in giving the Lord Jeffs the lift they needed going into intermission, and two second half goals earned fourth-ranked Amherst a 4-0 win Monday night at Goodling Field.

With the win, Amherst, one of three undefeated teams in the nation, improves to 8-0-0. Lesley falls to 7-3-1 with the loss, which comes to the highest-ranked opponent in program history.

Casey McNamera turned in a five-point night for the Jeffs, scoring two goals and adding an assist, and leading scorer Jae Hao tallied his sixth goal of the season in the win.

The teams battled for a scoreless 35 minutes off the opening whistle, but Amherst got on the board with two goals in under three minutes at the end of the half. Alexander Sucre's third score of the year, which came at 35:13 on a diving header on a cross from McNamera, got the Jeffs out to a 1-0 lead.

McNamera took matters into his own hands at 37:59, sending home the rebound off a Max Fikke header that banged off the crossbar to send the home team into halftime ahead 2-0.

Lesley earned the period's only corner kick, taken by Ari Sinanis at 42:10, but the Lynx were outshot 15-4 for the half.

Out of halftime, Fikke earned his second assist of the night on a cross to Hao, and the senior scored his team-high sixth goal at 61:30. At 64:47, McNamera's second score of the game beat goalkeeper Nathan Trucks, on in relief of starter Max Perkins, to make it 4-0, which would be the final.

Perkins stopped a match-best four shots in his 60-plus minutes in net, and Trucks made one save in his 28:29.

Offensively, sophomore Ali Sozeri and freshman Jordan Santos led the Lynx with two shots each as the team was outshot 26-7 on the night. Thanks to eight in the second half, Amherst earned an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

After hanging with the undefeated, Lesley (7-3-1, 1-1-0 NECC) returns to New England Collegiate Conference play on Saturday, traveling to winless Wheelock (0-7, 0-2 NECC). No. 4 Amherst returns to action on Sunday at rival Williams.
