Sinanis PK lifts Lynx in overtime, 2-1, over Elms

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- Lesley University upended Elms College, 2-1, in overtime in New England Collegiate Conference men's soccer play Saturday night.

An Ari Sinanis penalty kick after an Elms handball in the goalkeeper ball in the final two minutes of overtime was the difference maker, as Lesley evened its NECC record at 1-1 and dropped Elms to 0-1-1 in league play.

Elms got on the board at 19:56 on a low line drive from Joelle Reyes (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) from 20 yards on the left corner of the keeper box that took on bounce and skipped past Lynx keeper Max Perkins (Lexington, MA/Lexington).

The Blazers lead held until halftime, but Lesley tied the match shortly into the second on Ali Sozeri's (Istanbul, Turkey/Miller School) team-leading eighth goal of the season on an assist from Joe Petit (Salem, MA/Salem) to tie the contest at 1-1.

In spite of outshooting the Blazers 21-7 through regulation and 13-2 in the second half alone the teams went to over time tied at 1-1.

Lesley continued to pepper Elms keeper Ryan Sullivan in the overtime and it finally resulted in a goal inside the 2:00 mark. A handball inside the goalkeeper box sent Sinanis to the penalty stripe, where he cashed in into the top right of the net.

With the win, Lesley improves to 7-2-1 and evens its record at 1-1-0 in NECC play. Elms falls to 3-6-0, 1-2-0 in league games and 0-4-0 on the road.

The Lynx return to play on Monday at 7 p.m., visiting the No. 4 team in the nation in this week's NSCAA Coaches Poll, undefeated Amherst College.
