Overtime goal lifts Leopards past Lynx

BOSTON -- A Wentworth goal in the 97th minute from the Leopards Dan Santacroce gave WIT a 1-0 overtime win over Lesley Thursday night in Boston.

Trailing 1-0, an 82nd-minute goal from Lesley's Ali Sozeri forced overtime. Sozeri took a low pass across the box from Joe Petit, and the sophomore's fourth score and the senior's first assist tied the contest at 1-1 at 81:51.

Lesley held an 8-7 advantage in shots through halftime, but the second half and overtime periods were spent on the Lynx half of the field. The Leopards outshot Lesley 11-5 in the second and 4-1 in overtime, with the extra frame's fifth shot ending the contest at 96:19.

Santacroce fired a shot past Lynx junior goalkeeper Nigel Leahy into the top right corner of the net, lifting WIT to the sudden death victory.

Making his season debut, Leahy made a match-high six saves.

Leahy and the Lynx return to play on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Mass Maritime Academy.
