Lynx silence Lions in season opener

QUINCY, MA --  Ali Sozeri's first career hat trick was more than enough for goalkeeper Max Perkins, who earned his first shutout since 2009 in Lesley's 4-0 season-opening win at Eastern Nazarene.

Sozeri, one of the New England Collegiate Conference's leading scorers a year ago, got the Lynx (1-0-0) on the board with the team's first goal of 2011 and what would eventually be the game-winner. From there, an unassisted score from junior Stefan Kotsopoulos gave the Lynx a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Two second-half goals from Sozeri locked up a 4-0 win for the visitors and a hat trick for the midfielder, who three times scored two goals in a game as a freshman.

For Kotsopoulos, meanwhile, his goal was his second in a Lynx uniform and first since last September 15 in a win over Emmanuel.

Perkins, who missed 2010 due to injury, completed his first shutout since securing a 1-0 win October 29, 2009 at the home of another team from The Commonwealth Coast Conference, Curry College.

Eastern Nazarene falls to 0-1-0 to start the season.

At 1-0-0, Lesley plays host to Mount Ida on Sunday at Edward Field.
