CAMBRIDGE, MA – Lesley
University remained perfect at 5-0-0 in New England Collegiate
Conference men's soccer play, improving to 14-1-1 overall with its
1-0 win over Southern Vermont in Saturday night's 9 p.m. start.
Ari Sinanis
(Guilford, CT/Guilford) scored off of a deflected save at 21:13 for
the game's only goal, his team-leading 10th of the season at 21:13.
The score puts moves the sophomore into second place in the league
in goals behind only Southern Vermont's Nick Haggerty (Wynantskill,
NY/Averill Park), whom the Lynx defenders held in check on
Saturday.
Lesley's offense, meanwhile, outshot the visitors 17-0 in the
first half with Southern Vermont goalkeeper Aaron Eschler
(Gloversville, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) making four saves. Lesley
had seven corners in the first half while Southern Vermont only
tallied one, but Eschler kept the Mountaineers in the game
throughout.
Twenty-one minutes into the second half, Eschler made a diving
save in Sinanis' bid for his second goal of the day to keep the
Lynx to a 1-0 lead. Tim Penrod's Mountaineers never mounted any
serious momentum, only testing Lynx goalkeeper Zachary
Almeida-Beers (Rehoboth, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth) for two shots on goal
in his second straight shutout.
Lesley improves to 14-1-0 (5-0-0 NECC), while Southern Vermont
falls to 5-8 (1-3 NECC).
Paul Vasconcelos' club enjoys an 11-day layoff before playing host
to Mitchell College on Senior Night on October 27.
