Lynx tear apart Wildcats in 8-1 romp

CAMBRIDGE, MA – First-place Lesley University (11-1-0, 3-0-0 NECC) jumped out to a 4-1 halftime lead in an 8-1 dismantling Wheelock College (0-10-0, 0-3-0 NECC) Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference at Edward Field.

Senior Tyler Reeves (Coventry, CT/Coventry) pounded home a rebound to put the Lynx on the board at 12:16 with his seventh goal of the season. At 15:45, Joe Petit (Salem, MA/Salem) scored his sixth of the year on a cross from Ali Sozeri (Istanbul, Turkey/Miller School), and Jonathan Jones-Takano (Tokyo, Japan/Bunker Hill CC) added an unassisted score to make it a 3-0 lead with just over 20 minutes gone by.

Ahmed Abubakar's (Springfield, VA/Robert E. Lee) second goal of the season upped the lead to four before Wheelock answered in the closing minutes of the half. Wilson Chang (Lee, MA/Lee) pounded home a putback off the hands of Nigel Leahy (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz), making his first start of the season, on a breakaway for his first goal of 2010, cutting the margin to 4-1 at intermission.

It was as much leeway as Paul Vasconcelos' club would allow. Ari Sinanis' (Guilford, CT/Guilford) tied Reeves for the team lead with his seventh goal of the season at 55:31. Exactly 20:00 later, Beau Morinamdo (Bay Shore, NY/St. John the Baptist) started a streak of three straight goals from Lesley reserves to close out the game, as the junior knocked in his first of the year at 75:31.

At 83:17, an Abubakar pass deflected off a Wheelock defender to Yair Correa (Pawtucket, RI/St. Raphael) , who tossed in his second of the year, and freshman Chris Vileter (Temecula, CA/Temecula) added an unassisted score with just under 6:00 left for the 8-1 final.

All together, Lesley outshot the Wildcats 43-3, with Wheelock goalkeeper Bobby Venning (Greenfield, NH/ConFal Regional) making an impressive 20 saves, many of the diving variety, in the junior's first action in goal they year.

Lesley travels to Becker on Wednesday at 8 p.m., while Wheelock takes on Newbury on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
