Late goal seals Lynx 11th win, 1-0

SOMERVILLE, MA -- A rocket off the foot of Jonathan Jones-Takano found the back of the net, giving the Lynx the lead in the final 10:00 and sending Lesley to a 1-0 win Wednesday night at Suffolk.

"It was one of our better games we've played," said fifth-year head coach Paul Vasconcelos, whose team improved to 11-1-0 on the season.

"We played very, very well, especially in the second half. We played great."

Takano's line drive from 23 yards was set up by a pass from Tyler Reeves and broke what had been a scoreless tie at 79:04, giving the junior his second goal of the season.

"It was a laser," Vasconcelos said of the shot. "A really nice shot."

For goalkeeper Zachary Almeida-Beers, who made two saves, it was his sixth shutout of the season and the team's seventh.

The Lynx, sitting at 2-0 in New England Collegiate Conference play after Saturday's 7-3 win at Elms, improve to a perfect 5-0 against teams from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Prior to Suffolk, Lesley had beaten Rivier, Emerson, Emmanuel and Mount Ida.

Winners of five straight and now 5-1-0 on the road, Vasconcelos club returns home, plays host to Wheelock on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
