Late Golden Eagles goal stops Lynx win streak at six

CENTEREACH, NY – Lesley's season-opening six-game winning streak came to an end with a 2-1 loss at St. Joseph's (NY) Sunday afternoon.

Late in the game, it looked like the Lynx unbeaten streak might hold. Ari Sinanis' second goal in as many games tied the contest at 1-1 in the 80th minute.

Then, with 3:32 remaining in the second half, St. Joseph's Stephan Zaech netted the game-winner on a through pass from William Kuhlwilm, leaving little time for a Lesley rebuttal.

After the teams went scoreless through the first half, John Dettori got the Golden Eagles on the board at 54:46, beating Zachary Almeida-Beers on a chip from the 18 with Terrence Dzus assisting on the play.

St. Joseph's outshot Lesley 12-10 and worked a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Chris Muhs corralled six saves, while Almeida-Beers made three saves in net for the Lynx.

Paul Vasconcelos' team is in action again on Wednesday at 8 p.m., playing host to Emerson in the Fifth Annual Charles River Cup.
