CAMBRIDGE, MA -- For a second straight season, Paul Vasconcelos and goalkeeper Zachary Almeida-Beers received the New England Collegaite Conference's highest honor, with the head coach was named Coach of the Year and the senior was named NECC Goalkeeper of the Year, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Almeida-Beers was one of five Lynx (15-2-1) to make the league's First Team. The senior (Rehoboth, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth) entered the NECC Tournament leading the conference and ranking 12th nationally in goals against average (0.396) and was 26th in the nation with a .872 saves percentage. He posted a new program single-season record with nine shutouts and a Lesley record 20 for his career.
Ari Sinanis (Guilford, CT/Guilford), who set Lesley's single-season goals record with 10 in 2010, joined Almeida-Beers on the NECC First Team. Sinanis ended the regular season as the league leader in shots per game (4.41) and ranked fourth in the conference with a Lesley-best 24 points. His five game-winning goals led the league, and his 1.24 points per game ended the regular season fourth in the league.
Freshman Ali Sozeri (Istanbul, Turkey/Miller School) established himself as one of the NECC's top freshmen in 2010. Sozeri is tied for third in the league with 65 shots, ranked fourth at 3.82 shots per game, seventh with seven goals and eighth at 0.41 goals per game.
Rounding out Lesley's All-NECC First Team picks are defenders Christian Domingo (Granada Hills, CA/Delphi) and Stephen Siragusa (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream). Anchors of the Lynx defense in front of Almeida-Beers, Domingo and Siragusa teamed with their nationally-ranked goalkeeper to create the league's top defense. The team's 11 shutouts in 18 games and only 10 goals against on the season are both new Lesley records.
Named to the All-NECC Second Team was Lesley senior Tyler Reeves (Coventry, CT/Coventry). The midfielder ranks second on the team in points (24, fourth in NECC) and goals (nine, fourth in NECC) and is tied for the team lead with four assists.
Reeves and the Lynx have received a birth in the ECAC Division III Tournament and will travel to Bridgewater State on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
