CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In a non-conference matchup with Curry College, the Lesley University men's soccer team was defeated 3-0 at home. After the game, the Lynx honored two senior members of the team who were on the roster for the inaugural season in 2006, Phil Lund (Mililani, Hawaii) and Sam Mead (Worthing, England).
Curry was led by a two-goal effort from Benjamin Radzicki (Sterling, Mass.) as the Colonels improved to 11-2-2 (6-1-1 TCCC) while the Lynx dropped to 4-11-1 (2-2-0 NECC).
Lesley appeared poised for a great game within the first few seconds of the match after Tyler Reeves (Coventry, Conn.) crossed a pass into the box to Zach Rocha (New Bedford, Mass.) who mishit a point blank shot into the keeper's hands.
Curry got on the board first at 5:39 as senior striker Jeff Shea (Canton, Mass.) fired a shot off his right foot that blew past the Lesley keeper for the match's first score.
Nearly ten minutes later, Radzicki would net his first goal of the game on an unassisted score after drawing the keeper out of the net. Radzicki directed his shot to the lower right corner to give the Colonels a 2-0 lead.
Curry would add another goal to cushion their lead in the second half on a beautiful cross off a corner kick from Marc Santos (East Hartford, Conn.) to Radzicki who blasted the ball to the back of the net.
Colonels goalie's Brian Newsome (Lawrenceville, N.J.) and Nicholas Calazza (Reading, Mass.) combined for the shutout as they made four and two saves, respectively. Zachary Almeida-Beers (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Max Perkins (Lexington, Mass.) made six and ten saves in the losing effort.
The Lynx will now have two important conference games coming up that will determine their playoff status. The first one will be against Daniel Webster on October 21 at 3:30 pm. Curry will next play an away match at TCCC opponent Regis College on October 16 at 4:00 pm.
