Reeves nets two against Becker; Lynx win 2-1

LEICESTER, Mass. - The Becker College men's soccer team was tabbed as the preseason favorite to win the New England Collegiate Conference ahead of Lesley University, but the Lynx defeated the Hawks 2-1 to win their first conference match of the season.

Sophomore Tyler Reeves (Coventry, Conn.) scored both goals for the Lynx who improved their 2008 record to 3-5-0 (1-0-0 NECC).  Reeves' first goal came in the first half off a lead pass from Scott Wheeler (East Hampton, Conn.).

The Hawks would answer back with a goal from John Gilbert (Sturbridge, Mass.) with an assist from teammate Jason Gianatti (Southington, Conn.).

Reeves would score his second goal of the game and his third of the season at 54:33 when Zach Rocha (New Bedford, Mass.) found Reeves in the box who headed the pass past the Becker keeper.

The Lynx defense held off the Hawks for the final 35 minutes of the match to earn the conference victory.

Lesley keeper Zachary Almeida-Beers (Rehoboth, Mass.) provided solid play between the posts for the Lynx as he made five saves in the match.

Between the two teams there were six cautions handed out with four yellow cards and two red cards.  Clark Davidson (Keeseville, N.Y.) from Lesley and Robert Giegerich (Londonderry, N.H.) from Becker received the red cards.
