WENHAM, Mass. - The Lesley University men's soccer team visited Gordon College in a difficult non-conference match up Tuesday afternoon. The Lynx lost 1-0, but gave a gritty, hard-fought performance against a high-powered opponent.
Lesley keeper Zachary Almeida-Beers (Rehoboth, Mass.) showed why he will be one of the best goalies in the NECC once conference play begins, as he made 12 saves and gave up just one goal.
Gordon had plenty of opportunities to score as the Fighting Scots fired 13 shots on net, including one by sophomore Matt Horth (Akron, Ohio) that ricocheted off the crossbar.
Junior midfielder Chuck Anderas (Green Bay, Wisc.) had the game's only goal as he scored on a sliding shot from the left side. The assist went to Joel Spruance (Ledyard, Conn.).
The Lesley offense was held in check for much of the game as the Lynx were only able to manage two shots.
Lesley is now 2-5-0 (0-0-0 NECC) following the loss.
The Lynx will have their first NECC match up of the season as the team will travel to Becker College on Saturday, September 20 at 3:00 pm. Gordon will visit New England College at noon on the same day.
