Almeida-Beers rejects 15 shots in Lynx 2-0 victory

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Freshman goalie Zachary Almeida-Beers (Rehoboth, Mass.) posted an incredible shutout, his second of the season, as the Lesley men's soccer team defeated Curry College 2-0 on Monday.

Almeida-Beers frustrated the opposition for 90 minutes as he made 15 saves against an extremely aggressive Curry offense.  Curry out shot the Lynx 26-7 for the game and took 5 more corner kicks.

Offensively for the Lynx, Evan Hunt (Cambridge, Mass.) found the back of the net, unassisted, at 52:08 for the game's first goal.  Seventeen minutes later, Nicholas Pedrick (Ipswich, Mass.) scored the second goal of the game for the Lynx off an assist from sophomore back Scott Wheeler (East Hampton, Conn.).

With a 2-0 lead and Almeida-Beers stopping any ball that came near the net, the Lynx came away with a victory.  The win improved their overall record to 7-8-1 (3-4 NAC).

"Zach was at the top of his game today," beamed head coach Paul Vasconcelos.  "To face that many shots and successfully keep each one out of the net is truly amazing.  He has matured into a smart, confident goalie."

The Lynx will finish off their regular season at Becker College on Wednesday October 24 at 3 p.m.  A victory at Becker would give them momentum going into their NAC quarterfinal playoff game.
