Late goal puts Mass Maritime away

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. - Lesley University freshman striker Tyler Reeves (Coventry, Conn.) scored the game winner in a 1-0 Lynx victory just 8:58 into the opening half Wednesday night as the Lesley dealt the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Buccaneers their 11th loss of the season.

Vigorous play up front in the first half by Alex Fisher (East Hampton, Conn.) and Sam Mead (Worthing, ENGLAND) for the Lynx kept the pressure on MMA keeper Tim Meighan (East Bridgewater, Ma.). In the opener Meighan was forced to make four saves.

At the other end of the field Lesley keeper Zachary Almeida-Beers (Rehoboth, Mass.) stopped two MMA shots ticketed for the net.

Great first half defense by the Bucs led by senior captain Peter Tomdio held off a determined Lynx attack.

The Buccaneers came out strong in the second half and pushed the ball hard. John VanDolson (Brimfield, Mass.) had an early scoring opportunity, but MMA just couldn't get the ball in the net.

With 4:59 remaining VanDolson had his third scoring chance of the half this time with the LU keeper out of the net, but the shot sailed wide.

Meighan finished the night with seven saves, while Almeida-Beers stopped six bids by the Bucs.

With the win Lesley advances to 5-6-1, while the Buccaneers fall to 0-11-1.
