CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In a game dominated with fouls and yellow cards, the Elms College Blazers edged the Lesley University Lynx 1-0 in overtime.

In the first half, two players from both teams received yellow cards.  Midfielder Patrick Kayego (West Springfield, Mass.) and defensive back Josh Malone (Chicopee, Mass.) were issued cards for the Blazers while freshman midfielders Joseph Petit (Salem, Mass.) and Alex Fisher (East Hampton, Conn.) got them for the Lynx.

The only offensive threat in the first half came from Blazers striker T.J. Nevue (Palmer, Mass.) who shook his defender and had a breakaway in the open field only to see his shot deflected on an amazing save from Lynx keeper Zachary Almeida-Beers (Rehoboth, Mass.).

The second half brought more physical play as three more yellow cards were distributed.  Ben Masse (Chicopee, Mass.) and Sam Senecal (Chicopee, Mass.) each got a yellow card from the referee.  Lesley's Stephen Siragusa (Valley Stream, N.Y.) was handed a card as well.

Lesley's best opportunity to score came off the bench from striker Philip Lund (Mililani, Hawaii) who rocketed a ball off his right foot over the crossbar.

After a scoreless regulation period, both teams were fired up for overtime.  It took Elms only a few minutes into the first overtime to win the game for the Blazers.  A pass from Blazers striker Sean Moylan (Chicopee, Mass.) to Brian Murca (Chicopee, Mass.) led to a breakaway where Murca blasted the ball past Almeida-Beers to the right corner for the game-winning goal.

Despite being outshot by the Lynx 20-12, the Blazers captured their second win in the North Atlantic Conference.  Elms improved to 2-7-1 overall (2-1 NAC) while Lesley dropped to 5-4-1 (2-2 NAC).

The next challenge for the Lynx comes this weekend against UMaine-Farmington on Saturday October 6, then Newbury College on Sunday October 7.
