Emerson defeats Lesley in inaugural Charles River Cup

BOSTON, Mass. - Emerson College (5-3-0) got a goal and an assist from leading scorer Will Sagar (Arlington, Va.) to defeat Lesley University (3-2-1) in the schools' first meeting for the Charles River Cup.

Sagar opened the scoring in the 44th minute on a controversial breakaway down the left side.  The Lion forward appeared to be offside, but the goal was allowed and Emerson took a 1-0 lead into the half. Sagar fed Ryan Poliseno (Hanover, Mass.) for a goal at 55:26 to give the Lions a 2-0 advantage as he crossed a pass for the left that Poliseno deposited into the lower right corner of the net.

"This was a great showing against a quality DIII program and a big step forward for us. The staff and I are very happy with the effort considering we played yesterday and have some injuries. We feel it was a 0-0 game going into the half, but sometimes officials make mistakes," said LU Head Coach Paul Vasconcelos.

Lesley next travels up to Maine for a doubleheader weekend against Maine Maritime and Husson in NAC conference play.  For more information on the Lesley University men's soccer team, please visit their website.
