Mustangs pounce Lynx on second half PK

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In a feisty match between Mount Ida College and Lesley University, the Mustangs scored their only goal on a penalty kick to beat the Lynx 1-0.

An aggressive slide tackle from Philip Lund (Mililani, Hawaii) on Mount Ida striker Adam Jensen gave the Mustangs a prime opportunity to take the lead on a penalty kick.  Lesley keeper Zachary Almeida-Beers (Rehoboth, Mass.) guessed wrong and Jensen put his team up on top on what would be the only goal of the game.

The Lynx were unable to score in this game but had many near miss shots.  In the 33rd minute of the game, Tyler Reeves (Coventry, Conn.) crossed left to right for Joseph Petit (Salem, Mass.) whose firm header was deflected on a one-handed save by Mount Ida goalie Brian Leighton.  In the second half, Reeves looked to cross again, this time to Evan Hunt (Cambridge, Mass.), but his shot sailed just outside the top right corner of the net.

"I love the way our team played today.  We gave ourselves chances to score and that's all I can ask for," commented Head Coach Paul Vasconcelos.  "We got some unlucky bounces, but I know that next time those shots will go in."

Both teams battled hard in the second half leading to three yellow cards issued by the referees.  Lund and Hunt received yellow cards for the Lynx while Jensen also got one for the Mustangs.

Despite the loss, the Lynx remain in good standing at 2-1-1 and will look to get back on track in their upcoming conference match up with Thomas College on Sunday, September 23 at 12 p.m.
