Lesley downs Elms 4-1, improves to 3-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Lesley University got back to its winning ways Wednesday night when it defeated Elms College 4-1 at home.  Lesley got three second half goals to break a 1-1 half time tie in order to improve to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Elms was coming off an electrifying overtime win against Fitchburg State College and was hoping to ride the momentum of that game to a win in its first conference game of the 2006 season.  However, with the loss the Blazers drop to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the NAC.

The scoring started in the 41st minute when Lesley's Steven Monteiro (Shelton, Conn.) caught Elms off guard following a foul, and found Sam Mead (Worthing, ENGLAND) on the far corner for the game's first goal.  Elms did not wait long to return the favor, just under a minute later, still in the 41st minute, Jean Edward Gerlus (Elmhurst, N.Y.) found a wide open Patrick Kayego (Springfield, Mass.) in front of the Lesley net to tie the game up at one.

Lesley started the second half strong scoring in the 50th minute when Monteiro scored his third goal of the year.  Lesley continued to turn up the pressure on the Blazers and was rewarded just ten minute after Monteiro's goal when in the 60th minute Gherry Ettiene (Roslindale, Mass.) had a magnificent unassisted goal.  Ettiene, who has tremendous ball handling ability and breakaway speed, sliced through defenders on the left wing and cut back in front of the goal for his third goal of the season.

The Male Lynx put the game out of reach of the Blazers when Scott Wheeler (East Hampton, Conn.) following an Elms foul buried a penalty kick in the 66th minute.

The Blazers next host Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday, September 23rd.  Lesley travels to Mount Ida College on Sunday, September 24th to battle with the Mustangs.  For more information on the Lesley men's soccer team please go to their website.
