Men's soccer wins program's opener, 3-1

NASHUA, N.H. - It wasn't just the first game in the history of the Lesley University Men's Soccer program.  It was also the Lynx' first win.

Behind two second-half goals, Lesley defeated Daniel Webster, 3-1, in a road contest that officially opened the record books for the Men's Soccer team.

Freshman midfielder Steve Monteiro (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored the first goal in the program's history when he beat Daniel Webster goalie Craig Van Toye with a right-footed shot just inside the penalty box that bounced in off the far post 21 minutes into the game.

Monteiro had been stopped on a penalty kick try just minutes earlier by Van Toye.

Lesley took the 1-0 advantage into halftime and made it 2-0 just five minutes into the second half when Monteiro's high school teammate and fellow freshman, defender James Boursiquot (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored.

In the 60th minute, however, Daniel Webster got a goal back on a Kieran Thorne breakaway.

But in the 80th minute, sophomore Zach Rocha (New Bedford, Mass.) headed home a cross into the box by sophomore Samuel Mead (Worthing, ENGLAND) to make it 3-1 and put the game out of reach.

Freshman goalie Imad Elkatrib (North Quincy, Mass.) made eight saves in net, and freshman defenders Scott Wheeler (East Hampton, Conn.), Evan Hunt (Cambridge, Mass.), and Alex Bixby (Francestown, N.H.) played solid in front of him.

Lesley will play its first-ever home game on Thursday against Rivier College at BB&N (7:30 p.m.). The next four games on the Lynx' schedule will be home matches.
