Lesley University Hall of Fame By-Laws

ARTICLE 1:  INTRODUCTION

The Lesley University Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 2024. Every year, the Hall of Fame honors past and present student-athletes, coaches, teams, and anyone who has made a significant contribution to the Lesley University Athletic community. The goal of the Lesley Athletics Hall of Fame is to have its membership span from the entirety of Lesley’s athletic history and include many of our finest athletes, administrators and supporters alike.

ARTICLE 2: PURPOSE

The Lesley University Athletics Hall of Fame honors members of Lesley Athletics for outstanding achievement in competition and/or service, dedication, and commitment to LU athletics. Operating under the authority of Lesley University, the Athletics Hall of Fame Committee selects and inducts individuals and teams worthy of recognition while upholding the integrity of the institution and its athletics program.

ARTICLE 3:  ELEGIBILITY/CRITERIA

The essential factor to be inducted into the Hall of Fame is demonstrated in exceptional contributions to the Athletics Department.

Student-Athlete

Candidates nominated in this category must:

  • Have displayed extraordinary performance while participating in athletics (e.g., All-American, All-Region, All-Conference (or era-appropriate recognition) and received a minimum of at least one All-Conference selection during their career (where applicable)
  • Must have participated for a minimum of three years in the sport that they are nominated for or a combination of four years of multi-sport competition (two years in two different sports).
  • Must be a graduate of Lesley University
  • Be five years post-graduation

Team

Candidates nominated in this category must:

  • Have displayed extraordinary performance while participating in athletics (e.g., exceptional win/loss record, NCAA appearance, national ranking)
  • Be five years post-completion.
  • The “team,” not its individual members, are considered Hall of Fame honorees. 

Coach

Candidates nominated in this category must have:

  • Made outstanding contributions through coaching, teaching, and mentoring.
  • Superior coaching win/loss record.
  • Consistent recognition of student-athletes at the conference level via weekly awards, all-conference teams and major award selection.
  • Fostered positive relationships with student-athletes during their playing tenure and beyond.
  • It is recommended that coaches must have been a member of the Lesley staff for five years or more and no longer coach at Lesley in the sport for which they are being nominated. Only the Director of Athletics may move forward Coaching and Administrator nominations to the ballot for voting selection.

Administrator/Staff/Faculty

  • Made notable contributions to the growth of the athletic department and University (new facilities, fundraising, recruiting, addition of new sports etc.)
  • Continually advocated for student-athletes to better their experience at Lesley both in the classroom and through their team
  • Went above and beyond to provide a quality student-athlete experience.

Alumnus/Contributor

Candidates nominated in this category must be:

  • An outstanding contributor through professional service, support, and/or volunteer work.

40+

Individuals who are alumni of Lesley University for a minimum of forty (40) years and participated and brought recognition and prominence to the Athletic programs of Lesley University.

Posthumous

Individuals who are deceased and have participated and/or brought recognition and prominence to the Athletic programs of Lesley University. A deceased alumni, coach, administrator, or student-athlete may be elected to the Hall of Fame with that individual's family member or representative eligible to accept the award.


ARTICLE 4: NOMINATION PROCESS

Nominees will be solicited from:

  • Lesley Alumni
  • Current or Former Lesley University Athletic Coaches/Administrators
  • Lesley Faculty, Staff, and Administrators
  • Lesley University Trustee or Cabinet members

The nomination process will open annually on June 1 and the committee will accept new submissions through 11:59 PM on June 30. Nominations shall be sought by the nomination forms listed below.  Nomination forms must be used for all qualified nominees.  Self-nominations will not be accepted.  Nominations shall be reviewed by the Hall of Fame committee and the Committee Chair reserves the right to advance or deny any/all nominations forward to the voting ballot based on substance of submission.  In addition to the nomination form, please send supporting documentation including copies of newspaper clippings, documents, and photos. It is the nominator's responsibility to provide all requested information by the deadline. Late or incomplete nomination forms will not be considered.

The Hall of Fame selection committee has the authority to nominate individuals who may not meet some of the published requirements in Article 3 following a unanimous vote.

The Hall of Hame selection committee will annually screen all nominations received and advance deserving candidates to the official ballot for a vote on induction into the Hall of Fame. Once a nominee is moved to the official ballot, they will remain in the pool of potential inductees for 10 years.

Once 10 years on the ballot have passed without a selection, nominees will transition onto the Retired Nominee list which can be revisited for consideration annually only by inducted members of the Lesley University Athletics Hall of Fame.

ARTICLE 5:  SELECTION COMMITTEE COMPOSITION

The Athletic Hall of Fame Committee shall consist of the following members:

  • Senior Athletic Administrator (Chair of Committee)
  • Athletics Department Director Report (VP or Dean)
  • Sports Information Director 
  • Two Athletic Coaching Staff Members, representing both genders.
  • Alumni Relations Representative
  • Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR)
  • Two representatives from the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), representing both genders.
  • Previously inducted members of the Lesley Hall of Fame.

ARTICLE 6:  SELECTION PROCEDURE

After review of nominations, the committee will determine inductees by a 75% majority vote taking place annually before July 15th.

There should be no more than six individual inductees and one team in a new class except under exceptional circumstances. The Committee should take into consideration gender equity when determining each annual class and will review nominations with special attention given to balancing the eras represented as well as the variety of individuals and sports represented. 


ARTICLE 7: NOTIFICATION
The Senior Athletic Administrator serving as the Selection Committee Chair will notify the inductee(s) following the completion of the committee vote. It is the expectation that this will be done shortly after the vote has concluded to provide incoming inductees with as much advance notice to plan to attend the annual Hall of Fame induction in person.

The annual Hall of Fame induction will coincide with Lesley Athletics Alumni Weekend, which traditionally takes place on a weekend during the Fall semester at the University.
