Lesley Athletics Celebrate DIII Week

Lesley Athletics Celebrate DIII Week

Happy NCAA Division III Week!

Student-athletes at Lesley University have always embraced the academic and athletic balance that comes with being a student-athlete at the NCAA Division III level. The University and its student-athletes celebrate those ideals and others associated with Division III athletics along with other institutions across the country during NCAA Division III Week on April 1-7.

The NCAA describes Division III Week as "a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community." Many Lesley Athletes exemplify the Division III outlook of being more than an athlete but an important member of a community on campus or at an outside organization.

Academically, Lesley student-athletes make up 42 members of the Fall 2018 Dean's List with 28 of those Lynx receiving Academic All-Conference Honors. Lesley student-athletes also have undertaken internship opportunities such as Harvard Athletics, the Boston Celtics, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay just to name a few. Along with academics, Lesley student-athletes also make contributions to their community with organizations such as Four Season Preschool, the Fairy Godmother Project, and the Paper Doll Project.

WHY DIVISION III?

"I chose Division III athletics because of the balance it gives me to pursue my education while still having the availability to participate in sports I love putting the time and effort in day in and day out" said Senior cross country and track & field runner Mike Fleming (Southwick, MA.).  "The whole mantra of academics over athletics helps me succeed in my studies while still considering extracurricular activities as an important facet of my life like most other college athletes".

"I chose Division III because it was the most competitive option for me at the time for Soccer and Academics which are both my #1 priority" said women's soccer's McKenna Straube (Junction City, OR) "It was the option that was going to support me most in the overall success I wanted for myself and know I can accomplish."

Lesley student-athletes embody the Division III Motto of the Three D's: Develop, Dedicate, and Discover. Student-athletes are able to discover their interests and passions, develop into well-rounded people, as well as athletes, and dedicate themselves to achieving their goals and potential, on and off the field.
