Cusick and McCracken earn NECC Weekly award

WOMEN'S SOCCER

PLAYER OF THE WEEK -Elms College senior forward Krystyna Gagne (Methuen, Mass.) paced the Blazers to a 2-0 conference week. Gagne tallied four goals, one assist and nine points for the two game series. She notched a hat-trick in a 10-0 shut-out over NECC opponent Newbury and netted one game winning goal and added one assist in a 3-1 victory over NECC opponent Wheelock.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - Bay Path College freshman forward Katelyn Dupuis (Chicopee, Mass.) helped the Wildcats to their first two conference wins on the week including a 2-0 shut-out over NECC rival Wheelock. In the win over Wheelock, Dupuis had the assist on the game winner and netted an insurance goal for the Wildcats. Bay Path defeated Southern Vermont 3-1 in the final match of the week.

MEN'S SOCCER

PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Southern Vermont College sophomore forward Nick Haggerty (Wynantskill, N.Y.) was a key factor in both wins during a 2-0 week. Haggerty scored one goal and tallied one assist in a 3-1 win over Johnson State. The Mountaineers came back to defeat NECC opponent Becker 3-2 in double overtime play. Haggerty assisted on all three goals for the match. For the week, he tallied six points.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK- Fellow Southern Vermont College freshman forward Adrien Alexis (Maplewood, N.J.) played the major role in the 3-2 double overtime victory over NECC rival Becker netting the game winner with just six seconds left in the game. Alexis also notched a goal in a 3-1 win against Johnson State. For the two games, he had three goals for six points.

FIELD HOCKEY

PLAYER OF THE WEEK -Becker College junior defender Kayla Messina (Somerville, Mass.) led the backfield defense in two NECC shutouts, while tallying four goals for eight points. In a 2-0 win over Wheelock, Messina netted one goal while coming back later in the week to tally a hat trick in a 7-0 shut down of Elms.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK -Fellow Becker College freshman forward Morgan Glass (Avon, Conn.) scored the eventual game winner in a 7-0 shutout of Elms College. Glass helped the Hawks to a 2-0 conference week also defeating Wheelock 2-0. For the week, she finished with two goals and six points.

VOLLEYBALL

PLAYER OF THE WEEK -Elms College sophomore outside hitter Stacy Croteau (Agawam, Mass.) tallied a .258 attack percentage in a split week going 1-1 defeating conference foe Becker 3-0. Croteau  had a double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs in a tough 3-0 loss against MCLA. For the week, she had 27 kills (4.50 per set), three assists (0.50), six aces (1.00 per set), 12 digs (2.00 per set) and two block solos (0.33 per set).

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK -Lesley University freshman middle blocker Amanda McCracken (Eldersburg, Md.) led the Lynx to a 2-0 sweep of NECC opponents Mitchell and Bay Path. She tallied a .341 hitting percentage without losing a set this past weekend. For the six sets, McCracken had 19 kills (3.20 per set), four service aces (0.67 per set), three digs (0.50 per set) and four blocks (0.67 per set).

WOMEN'S TENNIS

PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Bay Path senior Julia Bendzin (Poetsenkill, N.Y.) had a stellar week for the Wildcats highlighted by earning 2009 NECC Women's Tennis Player of the Year honors. Bendzin played two matches and made her way through the flighted championships this week. In their one finished match of the week, Bendzin won both #1singles and #1 doubles with partner Kara Fox in a 6-3 victory over NECC opponent Newbury. In the flighted Championships, Bendzin continued her undefeated streak taking the #1 singles title in a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Becker's Megan Nessen in the finals.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - Becker College sophomore Laura Mimms (Ashland, Mass.) also had a stellar week for the Hawks including being named the 2009 NECC Women's Tennis Rookie of the Year. Mimms played three matches and made her way through the flighted championships this past week. In their two finished matches of the week, Mimms went 2-0 at the #2 singles and 1-1 in #2 doubles. Mimms also won both the #2 singles championship title and the #2 doubles championship title with partner  Megan Nessen.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

RUNNER OF THE WEEK -Elms College junior Alycia Dabrowski (Chicopee, Mass.) was the first NECC harrier to cross the line at 22:52 for the Blazers. In the WNEC Invitational, Dabrowski  finished 43rd with Elms placing 13th for the meet.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - Bay Path College freshman Melissa Sippel (Loudonville, N.Y.) led the Wildcats with a 78th place finish. Sippel made her way through the chute with a season be 25:22 time as the second NECC runner to cross the line.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

RUNNER OF THE WEEK - Lesley University senior Fran Cusick (Lexington, Mass.) placed 7th in the Emmanuel Saints Invitational. Cusick crossed through the chute with a time of 26:43.17. The Lynx were 10th with a 273  team score as the first NECC harrier.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - Newbury College freshman Gabriel Nunez (Jersey City, N.J.) finished 30th in the Emmanuel Saints Invitational. He clocked a 28:01 for the 8k course running his personal best time. He helped the Nighthawks to a 15th place finish with a 416 team score as the 2nd NECC runner to cross the line.
