Cross Country runners earn NECC weekly honors

WOMEN'S SOCCER

PLAYER OF THE WEEK -Daniel Webster College sophomore midfielder TC DiSantis (Hinsdale, Mass.) netted the game winning goal in a 2-1 double overtime win against Anna Maria. DiSantis helped the team to back-to-back overtime wins for the Eagles a program first.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - Elms College freshman goalkeeper Molly Corse (Bernardston, Mass.) tallied 22 saves in two contests helping the Blazers to a 1-1 week. Corse saw 43 shots and faced 28 shots on goal between the pipes allowing only five goals for the week. She helped the team to a 3-2 victory with 10 saves against Mount Holyoke for Elms' first win on the season.

MEN'S SOCCER

PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Southern Vermont College sophomore forward Nick Haggerty (Wynantskill, N.Y.) led his team to another 2-0 undefeated week. Haggerty scored two goals and one assist in a 5-0 rout of Green Mountain, while tallying a hat-trick including the game winner in a 6-0 shutout over NECC opponent Wheelock. For the week, Haggerty had four goals and one assist for nine points for the Mountaineers.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK- Daniel Webster College freshman forward Joe Jerrhag (Ystad, Sweden) tallied a hat-trick along including the game winner in a 4-0 shutout of Fisher. This was Jerrhag's first three goals and first hat-trick of his collegiate career as an Eagle.

FIELD HOCKEY

PLAYER OF THE WEEK - For the second straight week, Daniel Webster College sophomore midfielder Natalie Bates (North Kingston, R.I.) was named the NECC Player of the Week. Bates led the Eagles with two consecutive hat-tricks for the week helping defeat Regis 5-2 and conference rival Bay Path 4-1. Bates notched the game winner against Regis, while totaling 13 points in both matches.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK -Elms College freshman goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) managed 43 saves for the week despite a 0-2 week for the Blazers. Bonavita faced 41 shots on goal in an 11-0 loss against Smith, and 17 shots on goal in a 4-0 loss against NECC opponent Becker. For the year, Bonavita has collected 103 saves through five games.

VOLLEYBALL

PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Elms College senior setter Kim Phillips (Randolph, Mass.) tallied 3.27 assists per game in a tough 0-5 schedule for the Blazers. Phillips had 49 assists including a match-high 15 assists against Utica this past week. For the 15 sets, she had five kills (0.33 per set), seven service aces (0.47 per set), 18 digs (1.20 per set) and three block assists (0.20 per set.)

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - Daniel Webster College freshman outside hitter Chelsey Crawford (Westfield, Mass.) helped the Eagles to a 1-0 week defeating Suffolk 3-1 with a .545 hitting percentage. Crawford had 14 kills (3.5 per set), one assist, one service ace, three digs and three blocks.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Bay Path College senior Julia Bendzin (Poestenkill, N.Y.) remains undefeated at the #1 singles position. Bendzin went 3-0 at the #1 spot and 3-0 in #1 doubles action for the week. She led the Wildcats to a 2-1 week defeating MCLA 7-2 and Albertus Magnus 8-1, while narrowly falling 5-4 to NECC foe Becker.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - Newbury College freshman Jennifer Swafford (Merrimack, N.H.) helped her team to a 5-4 victory over NECC newcomer Lesley. Swafford went 1-1 in #4 singles action defeating Nicole Smith 6-4, 4-6 (6-3) in tie-breaker action taking the final point edging the Lynx.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

RUNNER OF THE WEEK - Lesley University freshman Noa Kupfer (Woodbridge, Mass.) finished 69th out of 301 harriers in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.  Kupfer crossed the finish line with a 19:55 5K time breaking the Lesley freshman record. She led the Lynx to a 36th team finish out of 42 teams for a 921 score.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - Fellow Lesley University freshman Jess Arnold (Hilton, N.Y.) finished 218th with a 22:17 5K time at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. She was the second Lady Lynx to cross through the gate averaging a 7:11 mile pace.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

RUNNER OF THE WEEK - For the third straight week, Lesley University senior Fran Cusick (Lexington, Mass.) was awarded the NECC Runner of the Week honors.  Cusick crossed the line 50th out of 262 harriers with an 8K time of 26:08 recording his personal best 8K time. The Lynx placed 32nd out of 37 teams with an 881 score.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - Newbury College freshman Gabriel Nunez (Jersey City, N.J.) was awarded the NECC rookie honors for the second time. He clocked a 31:19 time over an 8K course finishing 4th at the DWC Eagle Invitational. Newbury placed fifth with an 80 team score.

GOLF

GOLFER OF THE WEEK - Babson College senior Fernando Pineres (Cartagena, Colombia), wins NECC honors for the second straight week,  shot -2 under par for a third place score of 138  (71-67) at the Trinity Invitational.  Pineres led his team to a third place finish out of 16 teams with a team score of 300-286=586.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - Mitchell College freshman Michael Baker (Gales Ferry, Conn.) shot an 81 (+9) for 6th place at the Nichols College Quad Match. The Mariners placed 3rd with a 354 team score, Baker had the team best round for the invite.
