Lowe and Trejo earn NECC Player of the Week

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

PLAYER OF THE WEEK — For the second straight week, Lesley University senior center Hailee Lowe (Hamilton, Mass.) was honored as NECC Player of the Week. Lowe had a another stellar double double performance against the Nighthawks with 27 points and 12 rebounds in a 79-56 win while notching 22 points earlier in the week in a tough 60-65 loss against top ranked Daniel Webster. She averaged 24.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 0.5 blocks and 4.5 steals for the week. For the week, Lowe shot 58% (21-for-36) from the field and 88% (7-for-8) from the charity stripe.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK — Daniel Webster freshman point guard Ariel Guzman (Yonkers, N.Y.) helped the Eagles to a 2-1 week including two NECC victories over Lesley (65-60) and Becker (79-55) and a tough non-conference game versus Endicott (70-50). Guzman was a spark off the bench for Daniel Webster and notched back-to-back collegiate career highs with 11 points against the Lynx and 12 points against the Gulls. For the week, she shot 53% (11-for-21) from the field and 50% (3-for-6) from downtown.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

PLAYER OF THE WEEK — Lesley University junior center Jesus Trejo (Methuen, Mass.) launched a major push for the Lynx taking them from 7th place in the NECC to 3rd place following a 2-0 week. Trejo put up stellar double doubles in both victories averaging 15.0 points and 16.5 rebounds. For the week, Trejo went 66% (10-for-15) from the field and 63% (10-for-16) from the free-throw line.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK — Once again, Newbury College freshman guard Timothy Young (Brockton, Mass.) was named NECC Rookie of the Week. Young averaged 12.6 points per game, 3.0 rebounds per game, 3.0 assists per game and 0.6 steals per game. He shot 36% (15-for-42) from the floor, 30% (6-for-20) from behind the arc and 100% (2-for-2) from charity stripe.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

PLAYER OF THE WEEK —Newbury College junior setter Matt Talamantes (Sylmar, Cal.) tallied a .391 attack percentage and averaged a stellar 11.41 assists per game. He guided the team to a tough six match week going 2-4 with two big wins over Hunter and Nazareth. For the six match week, Talamantes tallied 1.45 kills per set, 1.23 digs per set and .64 blocks per set.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK —Elms College freshman outside hitter Stephen Cameron (Newington, Conn.) had 32 kills and 47 digs for the Blazers 1-6 week including a 3-0 NECC victory over Southern Vermont. For the 21 sets, he tallied a 1.52 kills per set, 2.00 digs per set, three service aces (0.14 per set), seven blocks (0.33 blocks per set) and two assists (0.10 assists per set).
