THE LEAD – Lesley University suffered a pair of women's volleyball setbacks on Sunday, falling to University of Maine at Presque Isle in NAC play, 3-0 (25-10, 25-8, 25-11) before falling to Massachusetts Maritime Academy in non-conference action, 3-0 (25-11, 25-4, 25-11). The Owls topped the Buccaneers in the middle-match of the tri, 3-1 (25-16, 17-25, 25-16, 25-20).
HOW IT HAPPENED (vs. UMPI)
- The Owls opened the match with four straight points and led 13-2 after an ace by senior outside hitter Alondra Lopez-Aquino. Lesley regrouped and put together a 6-2 flurry to cut the deficit to 15-8 with kills during the run by first year Rayann Fatahi and sophomore Renee Hatch but UMPI held on for the 25-10 first set win.
- Presque Isle was in total control in the second, racing out to a 14-1 lead behind the strong service game of Kiersten Shade, cruising to a 25-8 win.
- The Lynx kept the third set close early on, trailing 4-3 after a kill by Emma Welch and two visitor hitting errors but a 7-1 spurt increased the Owl lead to 11-4 after an ace by Lopez-Aquino. Later in the frame trailing 19-6, Lesley put together a 5-4 flurry to get the score to 23-11 but UMPI closed out the match for the 3-0 sweep.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (vs. UMPI)
- Lopez-Aquino led all players with a match-high 13 kills.
- Welch paced Lesley with a team-best three kills and nine digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED (vs. MMA)
- After a back-and-forth start that saw the Buccaneers leading 8-6 in the first, MMA rattled off 13 straight points to take the first set, 25-11.
- MMA jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the second frame and then went on to score 15 consecutive points late in the frame to seal a 25-4 win.
- Lesley opened the third set strong, scoring the first two points including an ace from first year Sinead Thomas but MMA bounced back with a 12-0 rally to take control and cruise to the 25-11 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (vs. MMA)
- Gemma Geisler recorded a match-high of 10 kills while hitting .500 for MMA in the win and Shayla Narodowg dished out 20 assists in the victory.
- Fatahi posted a team-high four kills to go along with nine digs for the Lynx.
- Lesley posted its second-highest team hitting percentage on the year in the setback.

- Lesley is idle until next weekend when they face Vermont State University Lyndon on Saturday, October 21 in a pair of NAC conference matches starting at 1:00 PM.
