Lynx Drop 2 in Tri-Match

GAME OVERVIEW:

Dartmouth, Mass.—The Lesley University Women's Volleyball team dropped two matches on Saturday afternoon against UMass Dartmouth and Salem State, in a tri-match hosted by the Corsairs.  With the losses, Lesley slips to 1-2 on the young season.

VS. UMASS DARTMOUTH

Inside the Boxscore:

  • Lesley fell in three straight sets to the host team, 25-14, 25-12, and 25-20.
  • Senior Cassidy Wygonik led the Lynx with 7 kills and 5 digs, while Tallin Goldberg added 6 assists in the match.
  • The opening set was a back and forth match before UMD went on a 10-2 run to go up 19-10.  The run in the middle of the set proved to be the difference as they cruised to the 25-14 set 1 win.
  • The Corsairs opened up the second set with a 6-2 lead, and never let the Lynx get within 5 the remaining set. 
  • Lesley opened the third on a 4-1 run off 3 services aces from Goldberg to open up the set.
  • A 6-1 run for UMD brought them up 10-6 and despite being tied 19-19 off back to back service aces from Lesley first year Maile Counts, the Lynx were unable to jump ahead en route to the 20-24 set 3 loss. 

VS SALEM STATE

Inside the Boxscore:

  • In the late match, the Lynx fell in three sets to the Vikings, 25-16, 25-13, and 25-19.
  • Counts and Wygonik led the way with 8 kills apiece.  Wygonik added 7 digs while Counts dished 6 assists.  Goldberg served up 12 total assists in the match for Lesley.
  • Lesley struggled to gain any advantage over the Vikings, never being able to claim a lead in the match.
  • The Lynx committed 20 attack errors to Salem's 15, while the Vikings outshined in service aces 10-3 over Lesley.
