Women's Volleyball Races Past Bay Path

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University women's volleyball team raced past Bay Path University with a 3-0 sweep in New England Collegiate Conference action this afternoon at the Nicholas Athletics Center. The win propels the Lynx to 9-7 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in conference matches while the Wildcats drop to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in the NECC.

Lesley, winners of six of their last seven, used set scores 25-19, 25-22, and 25-21 to secure the victory.

Lynx sophomores Kaylee Deluga (Dennis, Mass.) and Ciara Bruning (Centerville, Mass.) powered the offense for the hosts as they combined for 26 of Lesley's 36 total kills. Deluga knocked down a match-high 14 kills with a .480 hitting percentage while Bruning finished with a season-best 12 slams while swinging .455 for the match. Seniors Jess Reynolds (Londonderry, N.H.) and Emily Marden (Fremont, Calif.) led the Lynx defense with 11 digs apiece. Marden led all players with 25 assists.

Bay Path sophomore Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn.) led the Wildcats with 12 kills and a .303 hitting percentage. Senior Elizabeth Haylette (Terryville, Conn.) chipped in with six kills while Aaliyah Gordon (Springfield, Mass.) and Taylor Heinbokel (Agawam, Mass.) each added three. Freshman libero Jo Nazario (Springfield, Mass.) posted a match-high 17 digs while setter Lexi Cears (Agawam, Mass.) dished out 22 helpers.

The Lynx never trailed in the opening two sets as they quickly opened a 2-0 match lead. Bay Path opened the third set with a 10-6 lead, but Lesley used a 13-3 run to pull ahead 19-13 before rolling to the 25-21 set win to clinch the match.

Lesley hit. 214 in the match while holding Bay Path to just a .065 hitting percentage. The Lynx also held a 36-26 edge in total kills while the Wildcats kept a slim 43-42 edge in digs.

The Lynx will return to the court on Wednesday when they travel to Suffolk University for a non-conference tilt with the Rams. First serve is scheduled for 7:00p.
