Women's Volleyball Soars Past Eagles

NASHUA, N.H.  – Host Daniel Webster grabbed the opening set but Lesley University rallied to take the next three and posted a 3-1 victory over the Eagles in a New England Collegiate Conference women's volleyball battle Tuesday night at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.

The Lynx, winners of five in a row and six of their last seven, improve to 8-6 on the season and a perfect 2-0 in the conference while the Eagles drop to 4-14 on the year and 0-2 in the NECC.

DWC took the opener 25-19 and charged back in set two from a 19-13 deficit to pull even at 23 before Lesley escaped with a 25-23 win. From there, Lesley took control adding 25-18 and 25-22 set scores to close it out.

Sophomore Anna Abbruzzese (Croton on Hudson N.Y.) led the resurgent Lynx with a match-high 14 kills and 14 digs while classmate Kaylee Deluga (Dennis, Mass.) added 10 kills and senior Emily Marden (Fremont, Cal.) handed out 41 assists and pulled in 13 digs.

Amanda Gendron (Mont Vernon, N.H.) led the Eagles with 13 kills, 13 digs and three service aces, while Madeline Roulier (Pittsfield, Mass.) posted 12 kills and 12 digs. Nicole Beard (Shelton, Conn.) dished out 34 assists. Courtney Warrington (Canton, Tex.) chipped in with seven kills and 10 digs for the hosts.

Lesley hit .163 on the night to DWC's .110 and finished with overall advantages in total kills (46-40), assists (42-38), and digs (71-64).

Abbruzzese posted her best performance in the second set, knocking down five kills with no errors on seven attempts while Gendron knocked down five for DWC in the second.

Ciara Bruning (Centerville, Mass.) put down six of her 10 kills in set three for Lesley while Gendron countered with five more.

Lesley will look to make it six straight when they visit Framingham State on Thursday for a duel with the Rams at 7:00p. The Eagles remain home this coming weekend hosting a tri-match on Friday evening. DWC faces Regis in a NECC matchup at 4:00 p.m. and takes on Western Connecticut at 8:00p before returning to play Rhode Island College on Saturday at 2:00p.
