Women's Volleyball Drops a Pair at Emerson Tri-Match

BOSTON, Mass. – The Lesley University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches today at a tri-match with Emerson College and Western New England University. The Lynx started the day with a 3-1 (25-15, 25-19, 16-25, 25-14) loss to the host Lions before dropping a tough five set match to the Bears 3-2 (25-14, 24-26, 25-17, 23-25, 15-13). Lesley now stands at 2-4 on the season.

Game 1: Lesley vs. Emerson

Lesley sophomore Anni Abbruzzese (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) led all players with 13 kills to go with 16 digs for her first double-double of the season. Sophomore Kaylee Deluga (Dennis, Mass.) also notched double-digit kills for the Lynx with ten while classmate Ciara Bruning (Centerville, Mass.), added seven kills in her return back from injury. Senior libero Danielle McDonald (Lilitz, Pa.) registered a career-best 28 digs in the match and classmate Emily Marden (Fremont, Calif.) dished out 29 assists for the Lynx.

Emerson's Kelley Guerra (Randolph, N.J.), Fara Cohen (Morristown, N.J.), and Brittany Schoellkopf (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) all notched ten kills for the hosts who hit .204 for the match compared to a .081 percentage for the Lynx. Sophomore Elaine Nichols (Bountiful, Utah) finished with 26 digs and 13 assists while Moira Brennan (Glenview, Ill.) led the Lions with 26 assists on the day.

The Lions held a slim 46-40 advantage in kills as a team but the Lynx accounted for 28 attacking errors compared to just 16 for the hosts. Each side finished with seven kills while the Lynx held an 82-72 edge in digs.

Game 2: Lesley vs. Western New England

Deluga powered the Lynx offense with 11 kills and a terrific .308 hitting percentage to go along with a pair of service aces and two blocking assists. Sophomore Sarah Hollis (Hudson, Mass.) knocked down a career-best eight kills while coming one dig shy of a double-double on the afternoon. Abbruzzese slammed home eight kills of her own while McDonald once again led the defense with 24 digs. Marden finished the match with 28 assists and 14 digs on the defensive end.

Senior Olivia Lathrop (Farmington, Conn.) led the Bears with 13 kills on the day while swinging to a .500 clip. Sophomore Carly Skibinski (Milford, N.J.) and senior Kelsey Armstrong (Groton, Conn.) finished with 11 kills apiece while juniors Jessica Sincero (Verplanck, N.Y.) and Jenna Leuck (Dumont, N.J.) split setting duties with 24 and 21 assists, respectively.

The Lynx will return home to Cambridge on Wednesday when they host Gordon College in a non-conference affair at 8:00p at the Nicholas Athletics Center.
