THE LEAD – Lesley University cruised to an 8-1 victory this afternoon over SUNY Delhi at the Beren Tennis Center to complete a perfect regular-season slate in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC). The Lynx win clinches the No. 1 seed in next weekend's NAC Women's Tennis Championship tourney in which the Lynx will serve as the host school at a neutral site location.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Traveling to Cambridge with only four players, the Lynx began the match with a 3-0 lead due to forfeit wins in No. 3 doubles and No. 5 & 6 singles action, making it a tall task for the Broncos from the start.
- Lesley secured the win by sweeping No. 1 and 2 doubles play as by junior Jessica Legendre (Leesville, La.) and graduate student Caroline Champa (Boston, Mass.) picked up an 8-3 win in first doubles while sophomores Mary Osucha (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Lucy Boyce (Marshfield, Mass.) notched the 8-0 win in the No. 2 pairing.
- In singles action, Osucha remained unbeaten on the year with a 6-0, 6-1 win in first singles while Legendre did not drop a game in the No. 2 pairing going 6-0, 6-0.
- Champ put forward a strong showing in No. 3 singles going 6-0, 6-2 for the win.
- The lone Broncos victory came in No. 4 singles as Virginia Savage bested sophomore Tali-Anna Sutherland (Bridgeport, Conn.), 6-0, 6-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Lynx finish the regular-season with a perfect 5-0 mark in NAC action, the first time in program-history a team has gone unbeaten in conference play during the regular season.
- Osucha & Legendre are now 9-0 each in singles play on the year.
- Champa moves to a combined 9-0 on the year in her singles and doubles play.
UP NEXT
- Lesley hits the road tomorrow, Sunday, October 6 for a 12:00 PM contest at Curry College.
- The match was the regular-season finale for SUNY Delhi and the Bronco will be back in action next weekend in the 2024 NAC Women's Tennis Championship tourney, earning the No. 3 seed and berth against No. 2 seeded Husson University on Saturday, October 12 at 2:00 PM at the Apex Racket and Fitness Club in Portland, Maine.
