Women's Tennis Earns First Win of 2016 at Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Lesley University women's tennis team earned their first win of the 2016 season this afternoon with a 6-3 victory over host Albertus Magnus College. The Lynx earned two wins in doubles play before taking four victories in singles action to improve to 1-1 on the season while the Falcons start their 2016 campaign at 0-1.

The Lesley duo of juniors Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) and Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) got the ball rolling with an 8-4 victory at number one doubles before senior Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.) and junior Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.) picked up an 8-2 win at third doubles.

Kiddie earned her second victory of the day at top singles as she outlasted Falcons senior Zaida Velazco (Dominican Republic) 7-6, 6-3 while Lynx freshman Maddie Abbott (Portland, Maine) won her first collegiate singles match with a 6-4, 6-4 straight set win over Alicia Weaver (Bethel, Conn.).

Pereira added a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles while sophomore Jessica Russo (Watertown, Mass.) wrapped things up with a 7-5, 6-2 triumph at six singles.

The Lynx will open up New England Collegiate Conference play on Tuesday when they travel to Bay Path University. First serve is set for 3:30p.
