
MANSFIELD, Mass. – The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) has announced its 2022 Women's Soccer All-Conference teams and major award winners on Thursday. The awards were voted on by the conference coaches following the conclusion of the regular season. Lesley University led the way with five honorees, as well as two major awards. Mitchell College and New England College picked up the remaining major awards. Additionally, each institution saw a student-athlete honored on the Del Malloy Sportsmanship team.
Lesley midfielder Calli Masters (West Linn, Ore.) was voted the 2022 NECC Player of the Year, while Mitchell College's Madison Nicynski (Warwick, R.I.) was named Defensive Player of the Year. New England College's Stephanie Bronowicki (Corona, Calif.) was named Rookie of the Year. Lesley head coach Paul Vasconcelos was voted Coach of the Year by his peers.
Joining Masters on the All-Conference team in the midfield slot is Kayla Dorn (Hampton, Ill.) of Eastern Nazarene, Mariah Travisano (Putnam, Conn.) from Mitchell and Reese Hultgren (Charlton, Mass.) from New England College. A pair of Lynx made the team as forwards, Abby Kalou (Chicago, Ill.) and Haile Carrillo-Hayes (Chatsworth, Calif.). Eastern Nazarene's Jordan Lee (Hampden, Mass.) was voted into the final forward spot. Each institution placed a defender on the All-Conference team, headlined by Defensive Player of the Year, Madison Nicynski. Eastern Nazarene's Rachel Pieger (Oakville, Conn.), Lesley's Sacha Porter (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), and New England College's Brynn Murphy (Unity, N.H.) was also honored. Rounding out the team in the goalkeeper slot is Mitchell's Gemma Landry (Lewiston, Maine) and Audrey Calhoun (Chapel Hill, N.C.) of Lesley.
NECC Player of the Year – Calli Masters, Lesley (Sr., M, West Linn, Ore.)
In her senior campaign, Masters led the NECC to a 6-0 conference record, and the top seed in the upcoming NECC tournament. Offensively, she netted three goals, including one game-winner from the midfielder position. She also tallied one assist. Masters is a tenacious ball-winner, often gaining possession and creating scoring chances for the Lynx, who led the league with 41 goals. Masters was named Player of the Week once this season (10/10/21).
NECC Defensive Player of the Year- Madison Nicynski, Mitchell (Sr., D, Warwick, R.I.)
Senior Madison Nicynski shores up a Mitchell backfield that led the league with a 1.44 goals against average. Mitchell allowed only 23 goals on the season, also tops in the NECC. Nicynski also chipped in two goals from the defender slot, one of which was a game-winner.
NECC Rookie of the Year – Stephanie Bronowicki, New England Col. (Fr., GK, Corona, Calif.)
Freshman Stephanie Bronowicki made an immediate impact for the Pilgrims in the net, starting in all six conference games, and 13 matches overall. Her 126 saves and .808 save percentage were both second in the league. She posted three shutouts on the season, two of which came in conference play. Bronowicki was a three-time NECC Rookie of the Week selection (9/6/22, 9/12/22, 10/10/22).
Coach of the Year – Paul Vasconcelos, Lesley University
Head coach Paul Vasconcelos led Lesley to a 10-7-1 overall record and an unblemished 6-0 record in NECC play. Lesley boasts the league's most prolific offense, as the Lynx lead the league with 41 goals -more than double the second best. Lesley earned the No. 1 seed in the upcoming NECC Women's Soccer Championship. He coached the NECC Player of the Year, as well as five all-conference honorees. This is Vasconcelos' tenth NECC Coach of the Year award (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022).
