Lynx Take First Place In NECC After 5-1 Win Over Pilgrims

GAME OVERVIEW:

HENNIKER, NH. -- The Lesley Women's soccer team took sole possession of first place after a huge conference win over the New England College Pilgrims by a score of 5-2. The victory brings the Lynx to 10-3-1 on the season and 4-1 in the NECC, while the Pilgrims fall to 6-7-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the conference.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • Both offenses were clicking early, with each team taking four shots in the game's first twenty minutes.
  • The Lynx got on the board first, thanks to Claire Hounslow's third goal of the season. Hounslow's score came in the 25th minute and would be the only goal of the first half.
  • After Hounslow's goal, the Lynx took control of the game. They outshot the Pilgrims 15 to 5 in the first half and took eight corner kicks.
  • Lesley scored again in the 55th minute to go up 2-0. Julia Cohn scored her fourth goal of the season on a volley off her knee, with assists by Hounslow and Chloe Kouyoumdjian. It was Hounslow's second assist of the season and Kouyoumdjian's fifth.
  • The Pilgrims kept themselves in the game, cutting the Lesley lead to 2-1 in minute 66. Leeann Demirjian scored her first goal of the season for New England.
  • Seven minutes later, the Lynx regained their two goal lead. Kouyoumdjian continued a solid night by scoring a goal of her own, her first of the year.
  • Again, the Pilgrims stayed in it, this time by a goal from Paxton Couture and an assist by Molly Bieksha. It was Couture's first goal of the season.
  • In the 81st minute, Maddy Dietrick put the Lynx back up by two goals with an assist from Kerrie Larson. Dietrick's goal was also her first of the season and Larson earned her sixth assist.
  • Two minutes later, Tayla Mayberry scored her first goal of the season for the Lynx to put them up 5-2. Mayberry got an assist from Kayleigh Chicas, her first of the year. Of the seven goals scored in the match, five of them were the first of the season for the scorer.
  • Brittley Gaan earned the win for the Lynx, saving six of eight shots and improving her record to 5-2. Allie Stodart took the loss, saving 14 of 19 shots sent her way. The Lynx outshot the Pilgrims 34 to 10 on the night.
