Lesley, Simmons, End 1-1 After 2OT

CAMBRIDGE, MA-- The Lesley University Women's Soccer team came out on the attack scoring in the first five minutes of the non-conference match versus Simmons College at Edward's Field.  The teams competed back and forth the whole first half keeping the score at 1-0 and the end of the first forty-five minutes.

The Lynx struck first off a free kick just outside the eighteen when Senior Karlie Rubin chipped a nice ball into the goalie's box and connected for a header with Junior Jordan Mitchell.  Lesley outshot the Sharks 7-3 in the first half.

Much of the second half was a stalemate between the teams, with the ball being controlled predomininantly in the middle of the field.  Simmons held the advantage in shots 4-2, and attempted more corner kicks (3-1) but could not take advantage of the opportunities.  Despite not being able to execute on the shots or corners, the Sharks capitalized on a Lesley foul outside of the eighteen when Senior Liz Donovan took the free shot to the top left corner of the net to tie the game with just under four minutes left in regulation.

Lesley came up just short on a solid corner kick by Rubin who found one of her teammates for the header, but Simmons goalie Casey Halle was there for the save bringing the match into double over time.  Shots were at a minimal for both teams in sudden death, with neither team being able to break the 1-1 tie.  At the end of double over time the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

The Lynx travel to Wellesey College Saturday, September 9th for their first road match of the season.
