LONGMEADOW, Mass. – Lesley University received two goals apiece from sophomores Jordan Mitchell (Sachse, Texas) and Samantha Bessey (Algonquin, Ill.) and a goal and assist each from Kaitlyn Scott (Glendora, Calif.) and Cassidy Hopkins (Porter, Texas) as the Lynx sprinted past Bay Path University 6-0 in New England Collegiate Conference play this afternoon in Longmeadow, Mass.
Lesley, now 4-1 in their last five contests, improves to 8-4-2 on the season and 3-1-0 in conference play. The loss snaps a two-game win streak for the Wildcats as they fall to 6-4 overall and an even 2-2 in NECC action.
The Lynx offense was in gear from the get-go as Scott put the visitors on the board in the 7th minute of play when she netted the first marker of her collegiate career off a feed from Hopkins. Just 1:04 later, the duo teamed up again, but this time it was Scott who dished to Hopkins who beat Wildcats keeper Caitlyn Esposito to give the Lynx an early 2-0 edge. The goal was Hopkins' third of the season, tying her career-high season output as she also netted three in her rookie campaign.
The offense would continue to makes plays in the second half as Mitchell and Bessey each potted a pair. Mitchell would strike in the 70th minute off a free kick from junior Karlie Rubin (San Diego, Calif.) before Bessey connected just 2:45 later to give the Lynx a 4-0 lead.
Bessey then would find Mitchell who buried her second of the match in the 75th minute while Bessey concluded the scoring with another unassisted marker in the 81st. Mitchell now has a team-high seven goals on the season while Bessey has found the back of the net six times.
Junior Lilly Donovan (Newburyport, Mass.) made one stop in the start between the pipes to earn the win before giving way to freshman Brittley Gaan (Bellevue, Wash.) who made a pair of saves in the second half.
The Lynx outshot their counterparts by a 15-5 margin while the Wildcats held a 3-1 edge on corner kick opportunities.
Lesley will return home to Edward Field on Wednesday night and play host to Regis College in another NECC matchup at 7:00p.
