Durben to Fralick connection wins it in OT

CAMBRIDGE, MA - Finally, on her 14th shot of the night, Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) put away Wheelock College in a thrilling 1-0 overtime victory.

After weaving her way onto Wheelock territory, Alyson Durben (Stow, Mass.) connected with Fralick down the left sideline where she was able to take on her defender one-on-one.  Fralick crossed up the defender and sent a powerful right kick just inside the left post past Wildcats keeper Melinda Ortega to end the game at 96:05.

The Lynx out shot the Wildcats 27-2 in the game with several shots on net that were nearly goals.  The best chance for the Lynx in the first half came when a Fralick header off a Durben corner kick appeared to cross the goal line but Ortega made an amazing leaping save.

Midway through the second half, a breakaway by Lindsey Lacourse was broken up by Lynx defender Cathryn Folkestad (Ipswich, Mass.) on a hard slide tackle.  Folkestad received a yellow card for her aggressiveness but she succeeded in keeping the Wildcats away from the keeper.

"Cathryn showed just how smart a soccer player she is with that foul," commented head coach Paul Vasconcelos. "If she doesn't play her position hard on that play, then our team would have been in a 1-0 hole deep in the second half."

Sophomore keeper for the Lynx Hailee Lowe (Hamilton, Mass.) posted yet another shut out, her seventh on the season.

With the victory, the Lynx improved to 12-3-1 (5-3-1 NAC) while Wheelock College dropped to 3-12 (1-8 NAC).  The final conference game for the Lynx before the North Atlantic Conference playoffs begin will be this Saturday October 20 at 1 p.m. against Baypath College.
