Lesley solid against Newbury, 6-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Lesley women's soccer team scored early and often to beat Newbury College 6-0 in a non-conference victory.

Christina Corso (Shoreham, N.Y.) scored the first goal of the game when Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, Mass.) found Corso open directly in front of the net at 3:39.  Two minutes later, Lauren Mastellone (Howell, N.J.) scored her first of two goals as she blasted a ball from 20 feet away past Newbury keeper Rashawna Wynn.  The Lynx continued their offensive dominance with goals from Cabral-Pini (18:57), Jodi Fralick (16:00, Woburn, Mass.), and Cathryn Folkestad (48:58, Ipswich, Mass.).  Corso and Fralick each had an assist to go along with their goals.

Defensively, Lynx keeper Hailee Lowe (Hamilton, Mass.) never had to face a shot due to great ball control from defensive backs Folkestad, Dory LeCount (Waltham, Mass.), Luisa Florez (Ridgefield Park, N.J.), and Michelle Gagne (Portsmouth, R.I.).

Head coach Paul Vasconcelos commented on Sunday's victory, "We took care of one of the most important aspects of the game which is having control of the ball.  Once we did that, we were able to create opportunities for our offense to score.  I am proud of how we played today."

With the victory, the Lynx improved to 10-2-1 (3-2-1 NAC).  The next opponents for Lesley come on a road trip to Johnston State College and Castleton State College on October 13th and 14th.
