CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Solid defense and consistent offensive pressure from UMaine-Farmington led to a 3-0 loss for Lesley on Saturday.
The Beavers showed why they are the best team in the North Atlantic Conference by holding the Lynx to just six shots the entire game. Lynx keeper Hailee Lowe (Hamilton, Mass.) made several impressive saves, but it was not enough to stop the Beaver offense. Farmington striker Jackie Mrazik struck first in the 24th minute as she beat her defender down the line and skipped the ball past Lowe. Despite the early goal from Mrazik, the Lynx went into halftime down just one goal.
In the second half, however, the Beavers turned up the offense to put away the Lynx. Midfielder Julie Walters crossed up her defender and found freshman Chelsea Norton for an open field shot that she blasted past the keeper at 66:39. Nine minutes later, Ashley Tetreault put the game away for good as she found the back of the net on an assist from Norton and Walters.
Lesley Assistant Coach John Cunningham commented on his team's performance, "With our team missing two of our regular starters, we knew this was going to be a difficult match up. Despite that, I felt as though we played them tough. We are definitely looking forward to getting back on track in our next game."
UMaine-Farmington improved their NAC record to 6-0 with the win while the Lynx fell to 3-2-1. Lesley will face off against non-conference opponent Newbury College on Sunday October 7 at 12 p.m.
