Lady Lynx drop Hawks 7-2, still undefeated

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Lady Lynx got help from several different players in their 7-2 North Atlantic Conference victory over the Becker College Hawks.

Freshman striker Lauren Mastellone (Howell, N.J.) led the way with two goals and two assists and Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) continued to pile up goals for the Lynx as she added two more scores.  Midfielder Alyson Durben's (Stow, Mass.) corner kick at 27:24 sailed over the head of the Becker goalie Caitlin Faunce (Fairhaven, Mass.) to the back of the net for her only goal of the game.  She later assisted Mastellone on her second goal of the first half.  Junior Lani Cabral-Pini's (Wilmington, Mass.) goal at 58:22 and a free kick from Sarah Etzel (Manorville, N.Y.) at 73:43 capped off the scoring for Lesley.

The Hawks offensive was led by freshman midfielder Alena Phongsa (Putnam, Conn.) as she scored the only two goals for Becker.  Her first goal came at the end of the first half as she bullied her way past the Lynx defenders to sneak the ball past Lesley keeper Hailee Lowe (Hamilton, Mass.).  Phongsa struck again in the second half at 85:37 on a penalty kick after she was taken down hard in the goalie box.

Fortunately the Lynx were able to maintain possession of the ball for much of the game leading to many offensive chances.  Their 24-3 first half shot advantage easily led to a 5-1 lead at halftime.

Head Coach Paul Vasconcelos commented on his team's win, "We had tremendous control of the ball, we made smart decisions, and we got everybody involved.  I'm proud of how we played tonight, but we can't get too caught up in just one victory.  This weekend is a huge challenge for us, but I know we are ready."

With the victory, Lesley improved to 8-0-1 (2-0-1 NAC) on the season while Becker dropped to 0-8-1 (0-4-0 NAC).

Lesley has a difficult road trip this weekend as they will face Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday and Husson College on Sunday.  To find out more information about the Lesley University women's soccer team, please visit their website.
