Lynx Have Set Back VS Lyndon State

GAME OVERVIEW:

Cambridge, Mass- The Lesley University Women's basketball team fell to Lyndon State in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon.   The hornets outscored the Lynx in every quarter except the fourth.  Despite an even fourth quarter with each team netting thirteen points, Lyndon State was able to pull away with a 69-47 victory.  The win gives the hornets its 9th of the season with 5 losses, while the loss gives Lesley a 2-11 overall record. 

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • Sophomore Linda Wallentine kicked off the scoring sinking a jumper to give the Lynx an early lead.
  • The Hornets responded with an 11-2 run with 2:57 left in the first quarter.  Mikayla Hodge led Lyndon State during their offensive burst with 6 points.  Hodge followed up with a lay up and a drilling a 3-pointer to end the quarter 18-12.
  • The lynx got within 5 points off an and-one play from Elizabeth Portante, driving to the hoop and drawing a foul after the made bucket.  Dakota Jones dominated the paint with three makes in a row at the post to keep Lesley within reach.
  • Solid defense by the Hornets kept the Lynx from scoring in the final three minutes and end the half with a 37-24 lead.
  • Alisha Celley kept momentum going for Lyndon State after hitting a jumper early in the third.  McKenna Straube answered back with a 3-pointer, but back to back offensive rebounds and then a make by Megan Johnston forced a Lesley time out to regroup.
  • Forced turnovers and a steal from Victoria Carlson kept Lesley from scoring and allowed the Hornets to extend their lead 46-28 with 5:13 left in the third.
  • Lesley was unable to create the spark needed, and the Hornets claimed the victory 69-47.
  • Hodge recorded a double-double with 24 points and 14 rebounds to lead both team.  Faith Poirier chipped in 14 points, including three from beyond the arc.
  • Jones continued to be a force in the paint for Lesley finishing with another double-double in 10 points and 17 rebounds.  Wallentine created avenues with her dribbling skills and added 10 points for the Lynx.
  • Lyndon State dominated the second chance points 22-6, while Lesley's bench added 19 points to the Hornet's benches 12.
