GAME OVERVIEW:
Quincy, Mass- Eastern Nazarene University jumped out to a 12-point lead at the end of the first quarter to charge past the Lynx women in a 89-52 loss for Lesley Thursday evening. The Lions improve to 6-3 on the young season, while the Lynx drop to 0-9.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Junior Maddie Whipple kicked off the scoring for the Lynx, followed by a layup from senior Theresa Perreira to keep the Lynx within 3 points with 4:27 left on the clock.
- The Lions then went on a 7-2 run to take a 14-6 advantage through the first 10 minutes of play. Senior Shelby Holmes splashed a three-pointer with 28 seconds remaining to cap of the scoring.
- The Lions carried a 36-15 lead into the halftime after narrowly outscoring the visitors 4-3 in the final 3:16 of the second.
- Lesley came out of the half time break recharged and scored more points in the third quarter than they did the whole first half behind Pereira's 8 points.
- Depth in the Lions squad proved to be too strong for the Lynx offensive surge and scored 21 bench points in the third. Eastern Nazarene extended their lead 70-31 heading into the final ten minutes of play.
- The Lynx had their best quarter of the game in the fourth, outscoring the Lions 21-19. Freshman Elizabeth Portante hit for 8 points and grabbed 3 rebounds, while sophomore Dakota Jones and freshman Karyn McEvoy chipped in 5 points a piece.
- The Lions finished with a field-goal percentage of 54.0% and connected on 11-of-20 attempts from beyond the arc. The Lynx shot 28.6% on the night to go with 17.4% shooting from long distance.
- Portante lead the Lynx with 14 points and 7 rebounds, and Pereira ended close behind with 13 points.

"We are still searching for our identity as a team but I feel it's right around the corner," said head coach Jake Mattleman. "We have the pieces to put into place and I cannot say enough about the resiliency of our young women," he concluded. Senior Captain Theresa Pereira stated "the effort and hustle was there tonight and it showed. We are figuring out where we are most effective on the court as a unit and how to best utilize our strengths as a team. This was another huge step for us as a team," she explained.
