Women's Basketball's Win Streak Snapped by Regis

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College used a 55-24 rebounding advantage over Lesley University to propel the Pride to a 70-33 victory over the Lynx tonight on Higgins Court.

The win is the fifth straight for Regis as they improve to 9-5 on the season and a perfect 8-0 in the NECC. Lesley's loss  snaps a two game win streak and drops the Lynx to 5-10 overall and 4-5 in conference games.

Both teams struggled offensively in the first quarter, with the two teams shooting a combined 29% (10-for-34) from the floor, and the period came to an end with the Pride ahead 13-9. Lesley forward Dakota Jones (Torrance, Calif.) was the high point scorer with seven points in the frame.

When Jones picked up her fourth foul early in the second quarter, however, the Pride took advantage and quickly began to pull away. The Pride outscored the Lynx 25-5 in the second quarter, jumping out to a 38-14 lead at the half. Regis junior guard Shannon Hayes (Billerica, Mass.) scored 13 of her game-high 15 points in the first 20 minutes, while classmate Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.) pulled down 13 rebounds before the break.

The Pride continued to carry the play after halftime, with sophomore Melissa Rogers (Billerica, Mass.) knocking down 4-of-7 threes in the final twenty to finish the night with 12 points. Stone finished the night with 11 points and a season-high 17 rebounds to earn her sixth double-double of the season.

Senior forward Emily Meade (Derry, N.H.) led the Lynx with 11 points on the night on 5-for-7 shooting. Jones finished the evening with nine points and four rebounds despite only playing 15 minutes before fouling out.

Both teams will return to action on Saturday. The Pride will attempt to extend its winning streak to six on the road against Southern Vermont at 1:00 p.m., while the Lynx head north for a non-conference tilt against Maine-Presque Isle at 6:30 p.m.
