Wechsler's historic run earns NECC Player of the Week

Lesley University forward Kaitlyn Wechsler (Merrick, NY/Our Lady Mercy) has been named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week after a historic week in which she led the first-place Lynx to a 4-0 week and kept her team perfect at 9-0 in NECC play.

The senior started by crossing the 1,200-point mark for her storied career with 21 points in her team's win over Mitchell. She connected on 9-11 shooting from the field, adding a pair of  steals in a 62-50 victory.

The following night she shot 10-14 from the floor in Lesley's 49-25 win at Wheelock. In only 29 minutes, she posted team-highs of eight rebounds and three steals as the Lynx improved to 8-0 in conference play.

Wechsler turned in one of the most historic performances in program history Thursday night at Rivier. Playing 39 minutes, she tied a Lesley record with 33 points, converting on a Lynx record 15 free throws in 20 attempts in the team's 75-69 victory. The 5-foot-10 forward added seven rebounds and hit three crucial free throws in the final minute to ice the non-league win in capping a career night.

Lesley improved to 9-0 in conference play thanks to her double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds in Saturday's 63-53 win over Elms. Wechsler shot a scorching 10-13 from the field, adding a game-high three steals, sealing a week in which she averaged 26 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.2 steals, shooting an otherworldly 73 percent over the Lynx 4-0 week.

An All-NECC Second Team selection the last two seasons, Wechsler's Lynx return to action in non-league play Tuesday night against Plymouth State at 8 p.m.
