GAME OVERVIEW:
CLERMONT, FL. – The Lesley Lynx softball team finished their Florida trip with their first win of the season of the Alverno Inferno and a loss to the Manhattanville Valiants. The Lynx settle at 1-9 this season, while Alverno moves to 2-6 and Manhattanville advances to 7-2.
INSIDE GAME 1:
- The Lynx bats were ready for action against Alverno. Mahlia Medina led off with a double and Jordan Day immediately followed up with her third home run of the season to put the Lynx up 2-0. Medina is now hitting .393 with four doubles and eight runs scored on the year, while Day sits at .407 with eight runs batted.
- Lindsey Jensen got in on the action in the second inning with a sacrifice fly to score her sister Sam. Kristen DiCicco added to the cause with an RBI double to score Allyson Murphy in the fourth, as did Antonia Kieran and Sam Jensen who both drove in runs on RBI grounders.
- Murphy knocked Medina in with a single in the fourth inning. Tara Eldredge came in to run for Murphy and scored on an RBI double by Ilana Zack. Zack then scored on an error made after a single by DiCicco. The Lynx were out huge with a 9-0 lead after four innings.
- Kara Haga ran into her only trouble of the day in the bottom of the fourth when Natalie Akin hit a two-run homer for Alverno. Otherwise, Haga was excellent in allowing only six hits and three runs (two earned), while striking out eight Inferno batters.
- Medina scored her third run of the game on a double by Day in the top of the fifth. DiCicco then drove Murphy in on a fielder's choice and scored on a triple by Kieran. DiCicco finished 3 for 4 on the day with two runs scored and two batted in. Murphy finished 3 for 4 as well with one RBI.
- Haga picked up the win as the Lynx finished with a 12-3 victory over the Inferno. Lauren Greif got her second loss of the season after allowing eleven earned runs over six innings.
INSIDE GAME 2:
- Manhattanville is ranked #25 in the DIII National Rankings, but that did not deter the Lynx. Medina led off with a single and advanced to second, but the Lynx were unable to driver her in.
- Giovanna Liggett put the Valiants on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer off of Emily Streight, but the Valiants were not able to score anything else in the inning.
- DiCicco led the second off with a walk and made it to third, but again the Lynx were not able to cash in with runners in scoring position. That would be the story of the game; Lesley had opportunities often, but Valiants pitcher Charli Shinstine managed to escape nearly every time.
- Streight had done a great job holding her own against a nationally ranked squad, but Manhattanville pushed through in the third. A single, an error by Zack, and a walk loaded the bases up for Jayleen Torres who did her job. Torres drove in two with a base hit and pushed the Valiants ahead 4-0.
- Lesley's best chance came in the top of the fourth after Kieran walked and advanced to second on a passed ball, Sam Jensen walked and both runners advanced on a passed ball, and Patty Muratore walked. Riley Pickett came in to pinch hit, but could not get anything going with two outs already in the inning.
- Both teams traded sacrifice flies in the sixth, with the Lynx picking up their only run with Kieran driving in Zack and Dani Nii sending Steph Muller home.
- Manhattanville took the win 5-1, with Charlie Shinstine getting her second win of the year. Th Lynx only picked up one hit, but that does not effectively show how well they were able to put together scoring chances. Shinstine walked five and hit two batters and her defense made two errors.
- Streight took her fifth loss of the season, but looked her best against a tough opponent. She allowed five runs (only three earned), while striking out two in six innings.
